# Protect National Quiet Zone

> Residents of Green Bank, West Virginia, are working to preserve one of the few remaining radiofrequency (RF) free places in the country — the National Radio Quiet Zone — from encroaching wireless radiation. The National Radio Quiet Zone is a 13,000-square-mile area established in 1958 to limit RF emissions and protect the Green Bank Observatory’s sensitive research — it also serves as a refuge for people suffering from Electromagnetic Radiation Syndrome (EMR-S).
